Margaretta Elizabeth Lammot was a daughter of Daniel Lammot (1782-1877) and Susan Parham Beck Lammot (1786-1817) of Philadelphia. In 1824, she married Alfred Victor du Pont, a son of Eleuthère Irénée du Pont and Sophie Madeleine Dalmas du Pont. Margaretta E. ("Meta") du Pont Coleman (1862-1938), the first child of Bidermann du Pont and Ellen Coleman du Pont, was born in Louisville, Ky. After the death of her mother in 1876, she briefly resided with her maternal grandmother in Wilmington, Del. and then attended boarding school in Philadelphia, Pa. from October 1878-May 1879.
